to santa rosa. arson investigators are hard at work. the first fire started just before 10:00 last night at st. rose church on 10th street. minutes later fire crews were called to church of incarnation and then a third call came in about a fire at an engineering company on third street called carlie macy engineering. all fires were quickly put out and damage is minimal. investigators believe the fires are connected. right now there's no evidence the fires are hate crimes but at this point nothing is being ruled out. so far obviously no arrests have been made. >>> it is october first and blazing hot outside. a fall heat wave continues to grip the bay area. let's bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri in the nbc bay area weather center. super hot today. >> feeling more like july here across a lot of the bay area. good enough for a record in santa rosa. 103 in gilroy. walnut creek, 102. san francisco, 92 degrees. sweltering for city standards. upper 80s in the south bay. let's take you to that live hd sky camera network right now. a bit hazy. the winds are trying to turn more onshore

napa, santa rosa, half moon bay low to mid 50s. monterey bay clear and mid to upper 50s even inland. the heatwave breaks today record highs are over, clouds return tonight so does more comfortable sleeping conditions it will feel like fall this weekend. temperatures will continue to tumble throughout the next several days. today, compared to afternoon, still going to be warmer, were in record territory yesterday even if we cool, still 14° above average in livermore to 3 in napa, big key is when will the sea breeze hit your area? mid to upper 80s south bay, low to mid 80s peninsula, mid to upper 70s downtown south san francisco and sausalito mid to upper 80s north bay valleys east bay shore mid 70s berkeley mid 80s fremont hot inland low to mid 90s east bay valleys. mid to upper 60s along the monterey bay. temperatures at the coast will spike this morning then fall starting 1:00 this afternoon. it will not reach the coliseum so hopefully, the a's will stay hot like the weather, 73 first pitch at 12:35, 79 by 3:30. the sea breeze will hit the america's cup today, temperatures cooler

might need it up in santa rosa. here is the change. look at the jetstream taking a significant dip. area of low pressure arrives as we head through the next couple days. we're not expecting any showers out of this system potentially until late saturday into sunday and the best chance will be up in the north bay. a little fog and drizzle on the way for tomorrow morning. in fact, some cities aren't going to break out of the thick fog and that could become problematic. if you wanted to check out those blue angels, we'll take you to that forecast coming up. 81 in livermore, 66, back to the 60s in san francisco. 70 degrees in santa cruz. you can still hit the beach there, last day to do so before the 60s return to santa cruz as well. here we go, 77 degrees by friday. that's livermore. we'll be about 77 degrees in san jose today. saturday into sunday things really change. we get some showers. and then next week overall looking cool and cloudy and feeling like fall. temperatures falling below your seasonal averages for october. 4:49. back to you guys for now. >> thank you very much. >>> how's t

to low 60s. we will cool things off a little more so with clear skies and santa rosa, 54. the fog says off the coast. 48 the expected low. high pressure will be with us, very strong for one more day. the high pressure is bringing us the sinking air, and also the rotation around the high is bringing us the offshore -- the warm offshore winds. that's why we are heating up so rapidly. the heat hangs on for one more day, especially inland, and then all of this will back off and a cooler air mass by midweek. the highs for tomorrow, compared to the records for tomorrow, probably not going to see a lot of records because most of them are well, well high, but livermore we could possibly top off with a record. looking for a high of 101 tomorrow. the record is 102. in san jose, the high 94 and the record is 97. so maybe just a few records tomorrow. otherwise look for temperatures to be cooling. the air quality is improving in the north bay and the south bay. moderate rain is good near the coast. but we will still be in the poor levels. inland east bay and the santa clara valley, probably the las

in santa rosa where we could be in the 40s up there. the hour-by-hour forecast really tells the story of the day. this is your futurecast searching for fog and low cloud cover. at 8:00 a.m. from san francisco to oakland, in fact all the way to antioch and livermore, mostly cloudy conditions. that is our cooling mechanism. then as we head through the second half of the day, finally seeing low clouds burn off, pushing back out to sea. but the marine layer will hug the coastline all day. westerly flow carries in that cool ocean air and we've got a great-looking day shaping up as a result. 80 degrees in lever more, 76 degrees in san jose, 72 degrees in oakland and 69 in san francisco. major changes ahead. rain in the forecast. we'll tell you coming up. first let's check your drive with mike. >> first we'll look at the roads. in the south bay we've been tracking this, northbound 101. let me show you on the maps. this is an accident just north of where our camera is at old oakland road and has three cars in lane number three. they have to move these cars off of the roadway. big backup formi

there san francisco 59. about 58 currently through santa rosa. and then as we set the clock ahead to about 9:00 a.m. we're going to start to see some of the 60 indicated by the green color by noontime. ash highs look like we're gong to be topping out at 60s for the coast as well. 70s and maybe some 80s and then temperatures dipping down to about 50s by about 8:00 this evening. sticking to the afternoon highs take a look at them. low 70s, up. 80s on the board through places like antioch as well as liver moore. and pittsburgh, upper 60s for al immediate da. afternoon about mid-60s for downtown san francisco. low 60s for ocean beach and a mix of low to mid-70s. 74 degrees santa rosa and 76 for napa this afternoon as we take a look at seven day around the bay showing us we're doing to continue to feel that cool down into the weekend. when monday rolls around we do have a chance of showers in the forecast. time right now it's 4:48 let's get a check on your traffic. >> don't have any hot spots, it's really the perfect time to leave your house because it's quiet out there no problems on the freeway

in the upper 70s in downtown san francisco. the overnight lows look kind of chilly. 49 in santa rosa. 50 in napa. when you go to school in hayward 56 tomorrow morning. kind of chilly as the kids head off to school. the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting a lot longer. 28 degrees cooler. that's where the fog came from. it came up from the south sort of southerly surge and that's why temperatures in the next couple of days are going to be trending down. 80s, 90s, 100s. we'll get you some low 80s in some hot spots but this low pressure center is the culprit. we're going to be living in this range the next couple of days except the coast we'll be living in the 50s because the fog is going to be a constant player. the forecast model lines up the fog tomorrow morning right there. more than that. i think little misty again be more fog along the beach then by the afternoon temperatures that's the high so those are 70s, those going all the way up so that cool moist air infiltrated the delta or will infiltrate the delta. temperatures in sacramento 70s. 83 in brentwood, 82 in liverm

. santa rosa 69 degrees. let me get you through tonight first because so many of you head out friday night getting up early maybe hitting a garage sale tomorrow morning. san rafael 49, chilly napa 48. fremont 52. mountain view 55. san jose down to 54. fleet week blue angels man are those pilots awesome! weather will be good, not great. partly cloudy skies. there will be clouds and it will be chilly near the bay. 63 degrees. a lot of cloud cover moving in from the south and from the west. this is the upper level low pressure area that's destabilizing the atmosphere and as it does clouds will be more prevalent as we get through the weekend so that low we were talking about yesterday, it's about 50 or 100 miles closer. it's on its way here giving us the onshore flow. and a partly sunny weekend. thankfully, it's knott going to be right over top of us -- it's not going to be right over top of us until monday. saturday and sunday dry, cannot say the same about monday, tuesday and wednesday as upper level low pressure is over top of you was. there is a chance of some showers for most of next week

:19 in the morning. 62 degrees up in santa rosa. we head throughout the day today. we will see a return of the marine layer. cloud, yeah, the low clouds that have been missing for the past 72 hours, they return. as a result, your temperatures drop like a rock. so, what's ushering in that flow? we've got an area of high pressure which will bring about major changes. low pressure system arrivings. best chance for that will be in the north bay over the course of sunday into monday. winds will shift out of the west. that will bring about a 20 to 25 degree drop. your temperatures return. the patchy fog, the drizzle, is back. these numbers today will be even cooler tomorrow. as we get into your weekend, take a look at this. 94 in livermore. 78 in san francisco. 77 in santa cruz. if you want to hit the beach, you've got one more great day to do so. clouds rolling in at about 5:00 p.m. tonight. 70s return. the low 70s. mike just gave me one of those yes moves. it's going to be cooler here. >> we'll do the replay. yes. 70s. everybody wants to get -- okay, everybody on tv, the bay bridge toll plaza. the backup

, 103 in santa rosa, 96 in san jose. that actually tied a record yesterday for san jose. take a look at what happened today. look at san francisco, coming up on 20 degrees. 71 in san francisco today, down from 94 yesterday. so a big drop-off in temperatures. we're looking for temperatures to continue to trend down in the next few days. the reason for that is -- there's my hand. there's low pressure here and you can almost see how we pull this up. so it's pulling the fog back in along the coast. the fog is going to be a player now for the next couple of days. the low pressure center is going to linger offshore and that's going to enhance at times and maybe do away with at times the fog. it's going to be sort of this in-and-out thing with the fog in the next few days the. suffice it to say, we have a cooling pattern. shower and marine layer gives way to a fat marine layer and you'll see it over the hills. it will be much cooler in livermore valley and morgan hill tonight. when i come back, we'll get specific with the forecast highs for tomorrow and we'll talk about the five-day forecas
